Back in the water for the final test

Over the last two months we've been quietly working on one thing: making a Sea-Doo Spark faster, sharper to turn, and more comfortable to ride, without touching anything that isn't a simple garage job. From parts you can't see, like the ECU mapping, to parts you can't miss, like the rear exhaust, this Spark got a full overhaul. Now the build is finished and we took it back out on the water for the final test.

Why start with the ECU?

The upgrade you can't see made the biggest difference. An ECU reflash is the foundation of the whole build, it's what lets every other part on this list actually do its job, instead of fighting a stock tune. What about the exhaust?

What's better than a rear exhaust? Totally unnecessary, but it looks cool and sounds cool, and that about sums up our philosophy on this one. A rear exhaust kit is one of the easiest bolt-on changes you can make to a Spark, and it's a genuine head-turner on the water. We went with the dual exhaust kit for this build, though the free flow exhaust kit is worth a look if you want something lighter and more budget-friendly.

Can you actually change how a Spark turns?

Yes, and this is the upgrade our team talked about most after testing it. Adjustable sponsons let you set the Spark up to suit your own riding style, more aggressive for carving off the bottom of a wave in the surf, or wound all the way up for stability out on the river. As our team put it after the test ride: "you get the added benefit of being able to turn sharper, and you can adjust them down to suit your riding style if you want it more aggressive or less aggressive." We also make a Play Series version if you're after something a little more playful.

What changed with the steering?

Stability at top speed was another standout from the water test, and a big part of that comes down to steering feel: no play, no flex, just confidence at speed. Our team also pointed out how much they value being able to adjust the setup to suit exactly how they ride, from bar width to lever position, whether you're a stand-up rider or a step-down rider. That's what the adjustable steering stem kit is built for, and we paired it with a stronger steering cable to get rid of any play.

So how much of a difference did it make?

With every part fitted, we picked up over 10 km/h on top speed, from a stock 79 km/h up to 90 km/h, plus sharper turning and a more planted feel at speed. And every part on this build is a straightforward garage job. If you've got basic tools, you can do this yourself.

Final thoughts

This build is proof that a Spark doesn't need a full teardown to feel like a completely different ski. Start with the ECU, add the parts that match how you actually ride, and the rest follows.
