Tune your ski from your phone

If you've ever wanted to tune your ski without sending it to a workshop or waiting around for a service slot, this one's for you. We sat down with Bobby to talk through one of our biggest R&D projects yet: the Worx RTD, built in partnership with HP Tuners.

What does the Worx RTD actually do?

In short, it gives you the ability to read and write tunes to your ski straight from your phone. No workshop, no waiting. Plug the RTD in, connect through the Worx and HP Tuners app, and you're in control of your own tuning.

This has been a big focus of our R&D lately, especially on ECUs like the Sea-Doo MG1, which most riders know can't be tuned without hardware modifications. We've been working through the process of reading the original file off the ski, transferring it onto the modified ECU, and flashing the performance map across to unlock real gains.

How does the tuning process actually work?

Once you've plugged in your RTD and set up your account through Worx and HP Tuners, here's the basic flow:

  • Run a basic read file on your ECU
  • That file uploads to the cloud under your account
  • We take your original file and build custom tunes around it, whether that's for different fuels, race setups, or social riding
  • You can flash any of those tunes back into your ECU whenever you want

You can also restore your standard factory tune at any time, which is handy if you're taking the ski in for a service, or selling it and want to hand it over untuned.

Do I need to buy a new RTD for every ski?

No, and this is one of the best parts of the system. Once you've bought the Worx RTD and the BRP cable (which plugs straight into the diagnostic port), that hardware is yours to keep and use across as many Sea-Doo skis as you like.

The only thing you need per ski is a licence, which is tied to that ski's VIN. So it works out to one hardware purchase, with the ability to tune multiple skis as long as you've got the matching licences.

Is it just for tuning, or can it do more?

The RTD isn't just a flashing tool. Once connected, you also get access to:

  • Live diagnostic channels, including RPM, lambda, air-fuel ratio, manifold pressure and other key sensors
  • The ability to read and clear diagnostic trouble codes
  • Data logging, so you can capture a session and send it to us through the cloud
Reviewing live diagnostic data on the RTD setup

That last one is big for anyone chasing a more custom tune. If you want something dialled in specifically for your ski and your riding, you can log a session, we'll review the data remotely, and push an updated file back into your library, ready to flash whenever you are.

Putting it to the test

We took a prototype Sea-Doo, fitted with the updated hardware, out for a proper test day running Worx flash tunes through the HP Tuners platform. Straight off the bat we saw solid gains in speed, throttle progression and throttle response.

We also had a Yamaha GP1800 out on the same day, since that platform is supported through the combined Worx and HP Tuners setup too, and saw similarly strong results.

Steve from HP Tuners summed up exactly why this matters for riders: the RTD lets anyone at home get their jet ski tuned without a trip to a workshop. With HP Tuners' 20 years of experience working with factory ECUs, paired with the hours we put into R&D and testing every tune before it reaches you, you're getting tuning that's been properly proven, not just guessed at.

Final thoughts

This is the result of months of prototyping, testing and refining, between our team and HP Tuners. The end goal has always been simple: give riders the confidence and control to tune their own ski, backed by tunes that have actually earned their place in your library through real R&D, not shortcuts.
